Bio

Edemilson Paraná is an Associate Professor in Sociology at University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland, and a part-time Associate Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at LUT University, Finland. He holds a European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant and is an Academy Research Fellow of the Research Council of Finland (RCF). He is also a Geary Fellow at the UCD Geary Institute for Public Policy and an international fellow at the University of Groningen Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development, the Netherlands. He has previously taught at the University of Brasília and the Federal University of Ceará in Brazil, and has held research fellowships at the National Research Council of Brazil (CNPq) and the Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA, Brazil). Edemilson has lectured and published extensively in the areas of Political Economy, Economic Sociology, and Social Theory. His research interests include the Digital Economy, Digital Finance, Financialisation, and the Political Economy of Artificial Intelligence. His academic work has been published in Big Data & Society, New Political Economy, Cambridge Journal of Economics, Third World Quarterly, Globalizations, Platforms & Society, among others. He currently sits on the boards of The Yearbook on Data Autonomy (editorial), Historical Materialism (corresponding editorial), and Global Political Economy (advisory).

Edemilson Paraná é professor associado da Escola de Sociologia da University College Dublin (UCD), Irlanda, e professor associado em regime parcial do Departamento de Ciências Sociais da LUT University, Finlândia. Lecionou na Universidade de Brasília (UnB) e na Universidade Federal do Ceará (UFC), onde mantém filiação junto ao Programa de Pós-graduação em Sociologia. É pesquisador do Conselho de Pesquisa Europeu (ERC), do Conselho de Pesquisa da Finlândia (RCF), da Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development, University of Groningen, Holanda, e do Geary Institute for Public Policy, University College Dublin. Atuou como pesquisador bolsista de produtividade do Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (CNPq) e pesquisador bolsista no Instituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada (IPEA, Brasil). É mestre e doutor em Sociologia pela UnB. Ensina e publica nas áreas de Economia Política, Sociologia Econômica e Teoria Social. Seus interesses de investigação incluem Economia Digital, Finanças Digitais, Financeirização e Economia Política da Inteligência Artificial. Atualmente, integra o comitê dos periódicos The Yearbook on Data Autonomy, Historical Materialism e Global Political Economy.
